ABOUT ME

Formal Bio:

Deb Buschman was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Wisconsin. She has never lived far from a lake, since water is her first love. She graduated from Carthage College, located on Lake Michigan. Over the years she has held various jobs, including busgirl, waitress (how she met her husband), fashion model, copier sales person (didn’t last long) to human resources for a bank. But by far her two favorite careers have been being a mom to four sons and a children's writer. She has been a member of SCBWI since 2011 and now currently serves as the Wisconsin Regional Advisor. She coordinates two on-line critique groups. Deb won an honorable mention in the 2017 Rate Your Story Contest for her fictional picture book manuscript DARLING DARLA DANE. She is also a member of 12 X 12. She and her family can be found on the lake in the summer and on the slopes in the winter.

Fun Bio:

I was 6 feet tall when I was 14 years old, and no, I never played basketball!

I am the oldest of 5 girls and my seamstress mom dressed us in matching outfits.

I have fond memories of summers on Green Lake  playing flashlight tag with bats swooping around us.

My last bat experience was reading in bed by flashlight and a little brown bat fluttered past my cheek. I guess he likes to read too!

I love writing informational fiction; especially humorous animal stories.

Cheese is my favorite food group.

I used to help kids with physical and emotional challenges ride therapy horses.

I have loved all the dogs we’ve had, but our rescue Sophie the Saint Bernard was special. Now I spend time each week at the humane society walking dogs.

My greatest challenge was when my husband and I advocated for two of our sons who have dyslexia.

Did I mention I love cheese?

My greatest joy was reading to my four boys every night.

Sister Mary told me in third grade to be a writer. Thanks Sister Mary!
